What should you do in the
Computer lab?
Students are expected to:
• Use the computers and the technology PROPERLY
➢ By listening to directions
➢ By visiting the right websites
➢ By deciding what's right
• RESPECT the computers, themselves, and each other
➢ Respect your classmates, do not simply press your friend’s keyboard
➢ Respect the computers, because they are properties of school.
• PUSH in your chairs and keep the space CLEAN
➢ So someone doesn’t trip…
➢ And you enjoy coming here.
• EXIT all your computers programs before you SHUTDOWN the computer.
Hardware
The hardware are the parts of computer itself including the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and related microchips and micro-circuitry, keyboards, monitors, case and drivers (hard, CD, DVD, floppy, optical tape, etc…). Other extra parts called peripheral components or devices including mouse, printers, modems, scanners, digital cameras and cards (sound, color, video) etc… Together they are often referred to as a personal computer.
Software
The software is the information that the computer uses to get the job done. Software needs to be accessed before it can be used. There are many terms used for process of accessing software including running, executing, starting, up, opening, and others.
Computer programs allow users to complete tasks. A program can also be referred to as an application and the two words are used interchangeably.
Examples of software programs or application would be the Operating System (DOS, Windows, UNIX, MacOS, and various others), Word processor (typing letters), Spreadsheet (financial info), Database (inventory control and address book), Graphics program, Internet Browser, Email and many others.
